Kernow DAT
3 min readMar 19, 2019

At the last Kernow DAT event, back in September, we mentioned a few far off events and projects which are now rapidly approaching. We wanted to make sure you have the latest info so that you don’t miss these superb-sounding conferences, festivals, community events and projects.

Future Sync Conference

Future Sync is a community-minded tech conference keeping you in-sync with the latest digital trends. Hosted at Plymouth University on the 25th April 2019, the event is a celebration of the South West’s tech and digital industries. With three tracks focusing on business innovation, creative design and software development, this is an event you can attend with the whole team.

The 2019 keynote comes from Rubi Kaur, senior solutions architect at Vodafone with the day featuring talks from a Palo Alto based developer, design boffins from IBM, Google supported visual artists, entrepreneurial rappers alongside a smattering of the South West’s tech talent.

Apollo 50

Goonhilly Earth Station, one of Cornwall’s most iconic locations, will be staging an event this summer to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Moon landing.

Apollo 50 is a one-off special event on Saturday 20th July that will celebrate this monumental anniversary of history with an educational and entertaining day of music, science, art, and culture.

The Goonhilly satellite communications site based on Cornwall’s Lizard peninsula, played a pivotal role in broadcasting the Moon landing in 1969. “Arthur”, once the largest satellite dish in the world and named after King Arthur, signalled the dawn of the space age when it beamed images of the 1969 moon landing to millions of homes around the World.

South West Communities

Event discovery can be a time-consuming effort. Sifting through multiple platforms often results in missing out on the events you’re interested in, partly due to the amount of ‘noise’ these platforms can include.

South West Communities was created in order to provide a single source of truth for events which appeal to people working in the digital and technology industry. It consists of a list of communities who are hosting (primarily) free events and an index of their events.

Thankfully, it adds no extra steps for organisers to take for their events to be included or updated. By pulling events from various platforms on a daily basis, the calendar is always up to date and the important information available to attendees in an easy to process format.

The site currently includes 25 communities from across Devon and Cornwall. Take a look today and find your next event.
